Got a pair of P.breidohri in Germany, october 4. 2011, and now they have spawned for the first time!

The eggs where laid vertically on a pretty rough rock, and it took about 3 days before they hatched.
GH: 7 KH: 3 pH: 7,5 Temperature: 26 Celsius.

These are definitely three of my absolute favorite cichlids!

First off – Vieja/Chuco(?) godmanni, and Astatheros nourissati, having a “hard-talk”..

Bought some wild caught dicrozoster`s 3 months ago. They have grown well on bloodworms, OSI spirulina flakes, Tetra discus bits, mysis shrimps, daphnia, artemia, and market shrimp… and now, finally, two of them have began to prepare for spawning!

Parameters are: pH 7,2 – GH 0-1 – KH 0-1 – Temp 25 celsius – No3 12-25 mg/l

Potamotrygon histrix, development

Here you can see my two smallest histrix rays, and how they have developed from the day i bought them. The first 8 pictures is taken of the male, that came to me february 6. 2011.
At March 26. 2011 he got company of a nice female (You can se her on picture 9, 10 and 12).

Home made fish food

This is a good recipe, especially for carnivorous fishes. But of course you can modify and adapt it to fit other fishes with other needs too. For more or less herbivorous fishes you can for example add peas, more spinach and spirulina, and use less coalfish/shrimp/salmon.

Coalfish: 650 gram
Market shrimp: 650 gram
Salmon: 250 gram
Mussels: 200 gram
Spinach: 100 gram
Tetra Discus bits: Handfull
Carnivore pellets: Handfull
OSI spirulina pellets: Handfull
Spirulina powder: 10 gram
Agar-Agar: 70 gram

Herichthys minckleyi, spawning

Got this pair of Herichthys minckleyi in Germany Oktober 4. They where put in a 70 liter tank (temperature: 26 celsius, pH: 7,7 and GH 5-6). And 14 days later they spawned. The eggs was about to hatch after 3 days, but i could not see any fry as the eggs disappeared..

The day after – the male and the female was no longer interested in the spawning site…

Update: May 5. 2012

I now have about 25-30 small minckleyi fry swimming around in the basement (hatched January 15. 2012). The parents had to try 3 times before they where successful with the eggs.
The water parameters where/are the same as with the first two spawnings, except for the temperature, witch this time was at 28 Celsius.
