As known these fishes grow relatively large and need a lot of food, so it costs … Therefore i am constantly on the lookout for nice , cheap , and good food sources, and recently I came across something quite ingenious. I came in contact With 3 Brothers who are catching and selling freshwater herring (lagasild) each year between September 20. and October 10, from Norways biggest lake – Mjosa! They mainly sell it as Food for humans.
A quick trip to their «camp» resulted in me buying 42 kg of herring, filling up my freezer to the limit! 221 USD was the price. Most of the herring i save as whole fish, some i chopped into pieces and portion packed, and the rest was blended and mashed in a Food processor – and used as a main ingredient in this very recipe presentet for you here;
Herring : 1300gr / 45oz
Market shrimp : 850gr / 30oz
Mussels : 600gr / 21oz
Carnivore pellets : 30gr / 1oz
Spirulina : 20 gr / 0,70oz (lots of macro and micro nutrients, vitamins and minerals)
Agar – agar : 25 g / 0,88oz (binder)
Packaged in 1 liter ` s ziplock bags, this makes about 12 bags.
You can of course feed these foods separately, which I also do in addition, but fact is that some of the rays i own are a bit picky when it comes to food… therfore it is very helpfull for me to make a mix like this, so that everyone included the picky eaters actually get a good and varied diet .
Every singel ray i own like market shrimp, and so i have experienced that if shrimp is the 1. or 2. ingredient in home made Foods – even the picky individuals will Accept the mix!
